AI and digital regulations guidance released for health and social care

New online guidance has been launched to help developers and adopters of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology learn what regulations to follow and how to evaluate effectiveness.

The AI regulation service is facilitated by the NHS Transformation Directorate and its partners to support the adoption of AI and data-driven technologies. The aim is to bring together regulations, guidance and resources for digital health and care technologies. This should help to increase the uptake of safe, effective and value-adding AI and digital technologies across health and social care.

Developers of AI can use the website to understand what regulations they need to meet and when. The website includes developers’ guidance pages where developers can see regulations for technology that applies to them.

Care services and adopters of AI technology can use the website to gain confidence about using digital technologies. The adopters’ guidance pages provide advice and guidance to help adopters of technology make well-informed decisions.  It includes a data compliance checklist for adopters of technology along with guidance on using technologies in a social care settings.
