Cyber security awareness month

October is international cyber security awareness month – so our Digital Care in Focus will be cyber security.

As more providers adopt digital care records, eMAR and other technologies, the benefits are clear. Digital tools support better care, improved coordination and stronger decision-making. But increased use of technology also brings greater exposure to cyber risk. Health and care organisations are often targeted because of the sensitive information they hold, and attacks such as phishing and ransomware are becoming more frequent and harder to spot.

Cyber security is not just a technical issue, it is something that affects the whole organisation. Many providers do not have dedicated IT teams, so leaders, managers and staff all play a part in keeping systems safe. Everyday actions, like recognising suspicious emails and using secure passwords, are key to reducing risk – but it also requires a strategic approach.

Throughout October we will be discussing the emerging cyber security issues for adult social care, what we can do together – and sharing tips and advice for care providers and their partners.
