Digital technology: empowering care

Digital technology: empowering care

September 5th 2025

At Digital Care Hub, we know how important it is that technology works for people, not against them. That’s why we’re proud to support Skills for Care’s new spotlight, Digital technology: empowering care. It highlights how digital tools are already transforming adult social care—freeing up valuable time, reducing stress, and creating space for staff to focus on what they do best: caring.

Less paperwork, more time with people

Anyone working in care will tell you that paperwork takes up a lot of time. Skills for Care’s spotlight shows how digital systems are cutting this down. Services are moving from paper records to easy-to-use apps, from manual rotas to automated scheduling, and from filing cabinets to secure, shared online systems.

The impact is clear. Care workers are spending less time filling in forms and more time with the people they support—listening, sharing, and building meaningful connections. For us, that’s what digital transformation is all about. It’s not about screens; it’s about giving staff back precious moments with people.

Personalised care through digital tools

Digital technology is also helping services deliver more personal care. When information is available instantly, everyone in the team is up to date. A change made on a digital care plan can be seen by colleagues straight away, ensuring continuity and consistency.

These tools also help staff record and share the small details that make all the difference—how someone likes their tea, which music calms them, or what helps them feel comfortable at bedtime. Digital isn’t replacing personal care; it’s making it more joined-up and person-centred.

Our support for the programme

Michelle Corrigan, our Head of Digital Engagement, sums up why this matters:

“By partnering with Skills for Care on their Digital technology: empowering care initiative, we’re helping facilitate a future where technology empowers care staff to deepen connections and deliver truly person-centred support—freeing them from admin so that every moment counts.”

We share this vision wholeheartedly. Our role is to support care providers so they feel confident in making digital choices that work for them, their staff, and the people they support.

Building skills and confidence

We know that confidence is just as important as technology itself. That’s why we provide digital training and learning resources designed specifically for the care sector. From guidance on electronic care planning to cyber security awareness, we break down complex topics into clear, practical advice.

We also run learning sessions and create opportunities for providers to share experiences and learn from one another. This helps build a community where staff can feel supported, reassured, and ready to make the most of digital tools.

Looking forward together

The future of care will always be rooted in relationships—between staff, people who draw on care, families, and communities. Digital technology will never replace those relationships, but it can strengthen them.

By supporting Skills for Care’s spotlight, we hope more providers will feel encouraged to explore what digital can offer. Whether it’s adopting electronic records, using apps to support medication safety, or finding new ways to help people stay connected, digital tools can make every day in care a little easier and more meaningful.

At Digital Care Hub, we’ll continue to stand alongside providers on this journey—offering training, resources, and support every step of the way.

Because in the end, technology should give us more time for what really matters: people.
