Why You Need to Check Your ODS Code Before Submitting the DSPT

June 12th 2025

If you’ve recently added a new service, changed your organisation’s structure, or simply haven’t reviewed your details in a while, then it’s a good time to review your ODS codes.

What is your ODS code?

Your ODS (Organisation Data Service) codes help define your identity within the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT). They ensure your organisation is listed accurately, whether you are a single site or a multi-service provider, and help you avoid unnecessary delays or confusion during validation.

When you register for the CQC, you’re automatically assigned one. You can also contact the NHS DSPT team to create one for you.

You’ll need your ODS code to register for the DSPT, and it’s also used to identify your organisation within NHS systems. It helps ensure that your data, progress, and compliance information are linked to the correct service, especially if you run more than one site.

A quick check now can save time later

If your DSPT does not reflect your current structure, it can lead to misdirected progress updates, confusion over which sites are covered, and issues with validation. Fixing your ODS codes is simple but important.

Running more than one service? Check your structure

If you operate multiple sites or have a central head office, your codes need to be linked correctly. Misalignment can disrupt how your data appears in the DSPT and slow down the approval process. If you have made any changes recently, take a few minutes to confirm everything is connected as it should be.
