October is international Cyber Security Awareness Month, and we are making cyber security the latest theme in our Digital Care in Focus series.
A cyber incident can disrupt access to vital information, affect care delivery and put sensitive personal data at risk. Cyber security is not simply an IT issue: leaders, managers and staff all have a role in recognising risks, reporting concerns and helping services continue to operate safely.
Throughout October’s Digital Care in Focus theme, we will bring together practical advice, useful resources and experiences from across the sector to help care providers reduce cyber risks, respond effectively and recover well.

Practical help you can use
Our new cyber incident communication checklists help home care and residential care providers decide what to say, who to tell and when to provide updates if an incident happens. The editable checklists include actions to take before an incident, prompts for the first few hours and a simple update log. They should be used alongside your business continuity plan and kept somewhere you can reach if digital systems are unavailable.
You can also request a free, confidential Digital Health Check. This practical, judgement-free service helps adult social care providers see what is working, spot gaps in data protection and cyber security arrangements, and receive clear recommendations for improvement.
You can also run your own Keep IT Confidential campaign for social care – use these ready-to-use materials to share with staff.
