Digital Care in Focus: digital inclusion

Digital Care in Focus: digital inclusion

November 2nd 2026

Who benefits when care becomes more digital — and who risks missing out? This November, digital inclusion is our Digital Care in Focus theme. We’re inviting people across social care to share what participation, choice and access mean in their own lives and services.

We want to look beyond whether someone owns a smartphone or can use an app. Can they afford to stay connected? Is information accessible? Do they have the confidence and support to take part — and a say in how technology is used?

For people drawing on care and support, the conversation might start with staying in touch, finding information or having more control over everyday decisions. It also means asking whose needs are overlooked when services move online, and how people’s preferences are respected.

For the workforce, we’ll consider whether digital expectations match the resources available. Are staff equipped and supported to use workplace tools? Can they raise difficulties without feeling judged? Are their experiences shaping decisions about new technology?

Our 2025 personal-device research offers a useful discussion point: among organisations allowing bring your own device (BYOD), only half had a policy. Seven in ten staff would have preferred a device supplied by their employer. What would fair, inclusive arrangements look like in your service?

Throughout November, let’s recognise what is working, challenge assumptions and discuss where exclusion persists. Small changes and fresh perspectives deserve attention alongside bigger ambitions.

Tell us what inclusion means to you. Add a comment with an experience, question or approach others could learn from. What needs to change? Please keep personal care details private.

Take the discussion further at our online panel, Digital inclusion in care: Who gets left behind?, on Thursday 19 November 2026, 12:30–14:00. Explore different perspectives on exclusion and practical responses across social care. Book your place and bring your questions.
